Night Sessions

This got me so so SO stoked. But also, I CAN’T SKATE TONIGHT, even though it’s so dry, and so so nice. BUMMER. I can’t wait until all the things I’m stressing over are done.

PS KIDS: I’m going to be very shortly selling a fundraising calender for the show me and my friends are putting on at the beginning of January. It’s a pinup featuring the girls and boys of Photo. All the dudes are in drag, and there’s more of us than there are ladies (though the ladies do look very very nice (and some of the boys look damn good in drag too)). It’s likely to be ten bucks, and goes to promoting the photo department at ECUAD which is getting a lot of flack lately because of the analog processes. Our school’s administrators would like to see us move towards being entirely digital, getting rid of the wet labs in the name of “greening” the school.

This argument is kindof ludicrous, both from the greening point of view (think about digital waste a little bit), as well as being an institution that is known as an art school. I mean, are we as artists and image makers supposed to completely ignore our photographic history and culture because a new medium comes along? The ANALOG show we’re putting on is intended to showcase what we can do as images makers with analog processes, to show that there is something that will be missing if our school actually went through with disassembling the wet labs.

Anyways, that was a ill-thought out rant, which I still need to make more time to properly construct and write out sooner or later. I’m guessing it’s going to be sometime after December 15th, as that’s the last day our school is open before the Holidays, and quite frankly I’m spending all my time in the darkrooms making prints, or I’m otherwise going to be cutting mats and framing the work we receive for the show.

PS: if you’re in Vancouver (or have a way of submitting before Friday) get some work into us! We will be jurying the show, but the more work we have to choose from the better. The only requirement is that the work is not made with the aid of a computer in any way (no inkjets, no digi-negs ect). Long live Silver!

PPS: Anyone interested in purchasing some of my prints for xmas presents to friends and family? I could really use some extra cash, and I would really like to sell some work so I can feed my cat. If you like any of my old work, new work, or whatever let me know! If you give me as little as ten bucks plus shipping, I’d probably be willing to send you something.

I need to go do some real work now, because frankly I’m frustrated with computers (and life in general HAH).

YOU CAN'T SPELL CLASS WITHOUT ASS

Black and White formal “Bash” on Friday night. Our school threw it because they are stoked about being a university. I can’t wait to see the 8×10 of this that Brendon is processing in the darkroom right now. The only reason that any of us even had the digital camera is because Brendon and Sam (Sam the photographer behind this picture) were hired as the photographers for the event.

I however, just had fun playing Press Photographer, running around with Brendon’s GORGEOUS Graphlex 4×5 press camera, my Metz flash adorning it’s side. It’s quite nice to get a lot of attention because you’re holding a big beautiful camera. All my negs were just processed for a total of about 28 images. They look like so much fun. And I feel a bit like WeeGee because of the aesthetic that comes along with shooting this kind of camera with a flash like that, hook me up with a Police scanner and I’m on my way.

Also, last night was the Wayne’s World party at the Sweatshop. I think all I can really say is GONG SHOW. I didn’t bring my camera, because I was planning on being really inebriated. I feel I succeeded. Four beers in ten minutes in the alley outside beforehand probably did the trick there. Lots and lots of crazy dancing this weekend, including being on the stage at the Sweatshop with at least (as our collective memory can recall) nine of my friends absolutely dancing our faces off.

Okay. Well. Lots more work to be done. Today is hopefully: photocopying an analog DIY zine, printing an assload of pictures, contacts from the Black and White Bash, and hopefully some food and sleep somewhere inbetween. Tomorrow is for scanning on my monitor shift. I promise some scans of lovely prints of: skateboarding, friends and family, and probably some drunks.

Thanks Huck for linking this one up. Got me stoked! I had to tell Push that I couldn’t go with them on their trip, I missed two classes just waiting around for it to be postponed twice, so I had to say that I need to stick around to get my schoolwork done/on track. I might be going in January though, which would get me crazy stoked. This video was a nice pick up after having to say no to a long weekend skate trip though, 3:30 seconds in, the wallrides are awesome.

The Simpsons

Thanks Amy for that one. Hey, way to also steal my tattoo! THIEF. Nice photos though.

Look Ma, I made the interwubs again.

YES.

Uhhhh. Yeah. My friend Jaik made this. Check out his regular comic-blog Puppy Teeth.
