Night Sessions
19-Nov-08
This got me so so SO stoked. But also, I CAN’T SKATE TONIGHT, even though it’s so dry, and so so nice. BUMMER. I can’t wait until all the things I’m stressing over are done.
PS KIDS: I’m going to be very shortly selling a fundraising calender for the show me and my friends are putting on at the beginning of January. It’s a pinup featuring the girls and boys of Photo. All the dudes are in drag, and there’s more of us than there are ladies (though the ladies do look very very nice (and some of the boys look damn good in drag too)). It’s likely to be ten bucks, and goes to promoting the photo department at ECUAD which is getting a lot of flack lately because of the analog processes. Our school’s administrators would like to see us move towards being entirely digital, getting rid of the wet labs in the name of “greening” the school.
This argument is kindof ludicrous, both from the greening point of view (think about digital waste a little bit), as well as being an institution that is known as an art school. I mean, are we as artists and image makers supposed to completely ignore our photographic history and culture because a new medium comes along? The ANALOG show we’re putting on is intended to showcase what we can do as images makers with analog processes, to show that there is something that will be missing if our school actually went through with disassembling the wet labs.
Anyways, that was a ill-thought out rant, which I still need to make more time to properly construct and write out sooner or later. I’m guessing it’s going to be sometime after December 15th, as that’s the last day our school is open before the Holidays, and quite frankly I’m spending all my time in the darkrooms making prints, or I’m otherwise going to be cutting mats and framing the work we receive for the show.
PS: if you’re in Vancouver (or have a way of submitting before Friday) get some work into us! We will be jurying the show, but the more work we have to choose from the better. The only requirement is that the work is not made with the aid of a computer in any way (no inkjets, no digi-negs ect). Long live Silver!
PPS: Anyone interested in purchasing some of my prints for xmas presents to friends and family? I could really use some extra cash, and I would really like to sell some work so I can feed my cat. If you like any of my old work, new work, or whatever let me know! If you give me as little as ten bucks plus shipping, I’d probably be willing to send you something.
I need to go do some real work now, because frankly I’m frustrated with computers (and life in general HAH).
