Yeah.

This was a 180 50-50 180 out? I don't even know.

Well. Beth with a something, I don’t even remember which way she 180′d onto the ledge for the 50-50, and it was 180 out too. Basically I came across this because I’m finally going to do something about putting together some kind of ‘official’ portfolio type thing. And then hopefully send it out to some people who like to look at those kinds of things.

Anyways, found this while looking through my negs, not sure why I never printed it, maybe because I only got the second half of the trick shot in sequence, maybe because my camera is not really fast enough to shoot sequences properly, maybe because I know I could use some fill light (though I really don’t mind it without).

Anyways! Anyways, I have a lot to scan I guess, and even more importantly, I have a lot to edit. And then I have to send it to people? I don’t know.

Oh yeah! It’s grad show time, and I’m pretty busy getting ready to have stuff put into the show which opens May 2nd. SO GET OUT TO IT.

(worst update text ever by the way)

Britannia Beach

BS SMITHS YEAAAHHHHHHHSSS

On Good Friday Yvonne, Daniel and myself took off with Daniel behind the wheel for the skatepark in Squamish. We didn’t stay there all that long really, but we started to figure out some lines, and I’m looking forward pretty hard to getting back there to figure out some more. On the way back we stopped by this sweet DIY skate shack overlooking the Bay in Britannia Beach. As you can see Daniel shot this sweet photo of me. We also stopped by the Horseshoe Bay park on the way back into Van.

I have to say, of the two parks I’m definitely feeling Squamish a little more. Less flat, more vert (though only in the one corner of the deepend) and a loveseat? And two of the sections have no flat whatsoever, which is awesome, if it takes a little getting used to.

Anyways. Hopefully the first of many skate trips this summer. I made it out to Bonsor yesterday, friend Jason accompanied me with his trusty Polaroid, the results of which I’m hoping he’ll scan, there’s some that are pretty fun.

Anyone want to hit Hastings and Seylynn tomorrow afternoon?

VOODOOLAND GYPSY CABARET

THEY MAKE SOUNDS

This Thursday I crossed through the golden shower curtain strung across Cafe MonMartre to see my good friend Brendon’s band Maria in the Shower play a lovely set. As you will find their website/myspace saying, they can be described as a “voodoo gypsy-land cabaret”. Which, for lack of better words is what I usually describe them as. But all definitions aside, they are a really good live show to see in Vancouver (or anywhere if anyone wants to book them elsewhere).

Well, I guess what I wanted to say about shooting this band is that it’s been a while since I’ve photographed bands playing. When I got there, being the first of Brendon’s folk to show up for the set, I was really reminded of when I used to just go to shows with my camera. How much fun I had just going, not really knowing anyone, and just taking photos. I’m quite a bit better at it now then I was in high school, but it was really just enjoyable. I think that this may mean that once summer officially gets here with a season of biking and an influx of moneys into my pocket I’m going to try and make it to more local shows. Vancouver has a really…interesting..mix of a local scene. Any genre from “voodooland gypsy cabaret” to Bison BC.

Anyways. I’ll be printing these this week sometime. And maybe I’ll scan some of the prints and throw them up (these are just neg scans..). OH, and I have some things I’m working on printing from going to Powell River last week. SKATEBOARDING THINGS that will be on the lines soon.
