SHRED OR DEAD

This Thursday I crossed through the golden shower curtain strung across Cafe MonMartre to see my good friend Brendon’s band Maria in the Shower play a lovely set. As you will find their website/myspace saying, they can be described as a “voodoo gypsy-land cabaret”. Which, for lack of better words is what I usually describe them as. But all definitions aside, they are a really good live show to see in Vancouver (or anywhere if anyone wants to book them elsewhere).

Well, I guess what I wanted to say about shooting this band is that it’s been a while since I’ve photographed bands playing. When I got there, being the first of Brendon’s folk to show up for the set, I was really reminded of when I used to just go to shows with my camera. How much fun I had just going, not really knowing anyone, and just taking photos. I’m quite a bit better at it now then I was in high school, but it was really just enjoyable. I think that this may mean that once summer officially gets here with a season of biking and an influx of moneys into my pocket I’m going to try and make it to more local shows. Vancouver has a really…interesting..mix of a local scene. Any genre from “voodooland gypsy cabaret” to Bison BC.

Anyways. I’ll be printing these this week sometime. And maybe I’ll scan some of the prints and throw them up (these are just neg scans..). OH, and I have some things I’m working on printing from going to Powell River last week. SKATEBOARDING THINGS that will be on the lines soon.
