SHREDZorDEADZ

CORNERS

Jeremie a while ago at Leeside. Hey. So soon this site is going to be moved over to a new address. That new address is SHREDorDEAD dot CA.

I don’t have much else to say right now! Check in later though, I’m going to scan some Polaroids.

Dropping Bombs

Seriously this dude pretty much kills it on a bike, well, anything, he's a pretty good all around dude.

Nate Lang bombing Georgia Street Viaduct to Main Street in Vancouver. I was meeting up with Nate to head on up to AntiSocial to buy some new wheels. And had this perfect vantage point to get a couple shots (there is a sequence (although a short one)) of Nate just ripping across the bridge. I would be more than glad to post the whole sequence, but seeing as my access to the high quality scanner is currently unavailable, this (really terrible) scan is all I have. And I’m not posting a bunch of bad scans.

That said, I’ll be retiring my old flatbed scanner. This neg was actually a test to see if I could use it for passable results, and I’m definitely not stoked on the overall lack of sharpness among other things. It has, however, cemented the idea that I need to get a new high quality scanner of my own. I have my eye on one that will allow me to scan all formats including up to 8×10 transparencies. But I just need another month before I can make a ridiculously expensive purchase in order to go crazy on producing images. Images for you to look at.

And on that… if you like the kinds of photos I take, I’m going to offer up a grab bag. That is, I’m going to say that if you want to help me attain what I need to start really producing photography, or if you just want some nice prints, I’m going to say that I will mail you a set of 3-5 prints depending on size and availability (most of them small prints) for the low low price of 10$ shipping (a stamp and envelope) included. Of course, ten bucks is a suggested “donation” and if you feel like being really generous, I’ll in return be generous in the selection of prints being mailed! Anyways. Shoot me an email dylandaviesphoto (at) gmail (dot) com and we can talk about it okay? Okay.

Oh. And if you’re in Vancouver, and you skateboard, THIS THING is finished. And it is THE BEST FUCKING THING EVER. I’m so stoked. Made it over the stairs, and slashing in the deepend. And little f/s airs. Now I need to learn me some new tricks..

Jeff Curry and Peck

Jeff Curry and Peck before the Champion’s League race. So how about those Riots in Toronto hey? Hope all my pals from home are safe! (or maybe at least got some quality looting done? (j/k looting is pretty stupid)).

On another note, I bought a record player last week. It’s one of those ones that will output via USB to put it on your computer and consequently to your iPod (though I have yet to actually do this). So far I’ve bought two new albums, and a handful of others from flea markets and second hand shops. It’s pretty rulin’ so far, and I’d take recommendations for listening as I build my collection.

Time to go to Templeton for breakfast at one o’clock and then to Greek Day in Kits.

Oh PS: I’ve yet to get a spam filter working properly/delete the THOUSANDS of spam comments I’ve gotten since I was neglecting the blog. Sooooo, if you comment it might take a while to pop up.

Bunch of Nosepickers

CHAMPIONLEAGUE

Well. That there photo was taken before I won that there race we were all there for. Not trying to brag or anything. But yup.

But really I guess maybe I should say something about the redo of the layout and stuff? I basically got pretty sick of tiny little pictures, so I made everything bigger. So if you’re still in 2002 on a not widescreen monitor, or have a screen res that something 1000 pixels wide really doesn’t translate to, then I’m sorry. But not that sorry. If I’m going to start photobloggin’ again, I may as well have the photos look good.

But since I’ve started on the path of redoing the website, I will relinquish my plans on the interwebs now. Basically I’m planning on actually posting photos again, on the regular that is. Because well, I’ve been shooting a lot. Or at least quite a bit considering that I’m shooting all film. But plan goes like this:

Register New Domain (it’s going to happen soon! I hope!)
Buy Scanner (I have enough things to scan and post to go for a long time bloggin)
Buy Light Kit (skate photos + portraits duuhh)
Finish Portfolio Section (I kinda half assed playing with some things, but I’m at school, and don’t know my FTP stuff because I didn’t take Jeff Werner’s advice and save it in email and it’s on a text file on my desktop and he was right if I would have saved it in email then I would have it here and I could have used the school’s FTP program but instead I’m fucked!)
Scan/Actually make a Portfolio to fill this Section! (it’s half done?)
Get Famous? (LOL)
Make Stickers

Well. I’m super damn tired. I guess it was kinda busy at work today, and I’ve been doing computery things since after work. And I’m pretty sure that this post which was supposed to be like ‘WELCOME TO THE NEW BLOG, AWESOMENESS FROM HERE ON IN’ is mostly just caffeine fueled rambling. On that note, I’ll stop the mumbling, and leave with this photo of my friend and fellow courier Jeremie with a nose pick on the side of the tombstone at Bonsor. It’s a four foot tombstone extension that he is doing this on, out of a five foot mini-rampish shallow end. So, basically it’s pretty fucking gnarly, or at least I think so. This photo is actually one of a pair of photos that I submitted to a magazine for the first time pretty much ever. I got some feedback and am stoked to go out and shoot again and do some more submitting. Also, I’ve started to shoot colour? And not even print film. Transparency is a relatively new phenomenon to me. Well. I’ve shot a bunch of 35mm slide before, but it was mostly playing around before I completely went nuts over making prints. I have to say I am backing trans, I just need to get used to a slimmer latitude than I am used to with BW. But expect the next bunch of skate things I produce to be colour (and radical?).

FUCKING AMAZING

PS:! Got my ftp going so now uploads aren’t contrasty as shit. STOKED? Yes.

This rare blog post is brought to by excessive downtime and the wireless Internet at Elysian Coffee at 1778 w 5th (at Burrard).

I am planning some things to be enacted quite soon regarding more photographs and photographing and blogging and sharing. Anyways, I guess I just don’t really feel like making all that comprehensive a post while on my iPod. But sharing is caring (I have had way too much coffee today).
